The Sassagoula River winds through Port Orleans Riverside and provides guests a quick trip downstream to Disney Springs by water taxi. Port Orleans Riverside is one of four pet friendly resorts at Walt Disney World. Guests can bring their dogs (up to 2 per room) on vacation with them, but are subject to a nightly fee per pet.
Rooms
Guest Rooms at Port Orleans Riverside resort can accommodate up to 5 guests in a single room. When choosing a room guests have the option of a King room, a room with two queen size beds that accommodate up to 4 adults or a 5th sleeper room that comes with two queen size beds and a pull down Murphy bed that sleeps one. There is a large variety of different views for guests to choose from when deciding on a room. Guests can choose from a standard view that will oversee the resorts beautifully manicured grounds, a woods view, a river view overlooking the Sassagoula River, a pool view room that will overlook one of the resorts five leisure pools or a preferred room that is centrally located and nearby the Sassagoula Steamboat Company that houses dining, the lobby and is close to the resorts feature pool.
For the princes and princesses there is a Royal Guest Room that can accommodate up to four people. These rooms are fit for royalty and even have fireworks with just the flip of a switch. When choosing a Royal Guest Room guests have the option to choose from a standard view, a river view or a woods view room.
Pools
Ol’ Man Island is the resort's main feature pool that is designed to look like an abandoned saw mill with a 95 foot long rustic water slide that is built directly into the millworks. This pool is accessible by three different wooden bridges and is an impressive three and a half acres large. Guests can also enjoy the whirlpool spa and there's even a fenced in kiddie pool for our smallest travelers to splash the day away in. This is also where guests can participate in daily family friendly, Cast Member lead poolside activities and enjoy the resorts playground. In addition to Ol’ Man Island the resort has five different leisure pools that are a little bit more relaxing and quiet, three of which are located in Alligator Bayou and two are in Magnolia Bend.
Guests are also more than welcome to take advantage of the children’s water play area and the Doubloon Lagoon at Port Orleans French Quarter.
Dining
Boatwrights Dining Hall gives guests the true feeling of southern hospitality while overlooking the Sassagoula River. The menu boasts southern staples like Boudin Balls, Jambalaya and even a good ole fashioned Lowcountry Seafood Boil. They are open for dinner daily from 5PM to 9PM and does require a reservation, but there may be availability depending on the day for walk ups.
Riverside Mill Food Court serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner daily and even gives guests the opportunity to mobile order their meal ahead of time. The lunch and dinner menu features southern favorites like fried chicken, shrimp and grits and even gumbo all for an affordable price. Riverside Mill Food Court is also where guests will find a resort refillable mug station. This resort offers two watering holes for guests to take advantage of Muddy Rivers is a bar and lounge located at the Ol’ Man Island that serves salad and sandwiches and an extensive selection of cocktails. River Roost is another bar that is open from 5PM to midnight, with a kitchen that is open until 10PM that serves a variety of appetizers.
Recreation
Ol’ Man Island has a nightly Campfire on de’ Bayou from 5:30PM to 6:30PM where guests can indulge in complimentary marshmallows. On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays guests can enjoy a movie under the stars on the Magnolia South Pool Deck at 7:30PM. Guests can enjoy a scenic Horse Drawn Carriage Excursion down the Sassagoula Riverbank. Reservations are highly recommended and are available to be made 60 days in advance and are priced at $55 for a 25 minute carriage ride.
Transportation
Water Taxis pick guests up from the Sassagoula Steamboat Company marina to take them on a quick trip downstream to Disney Springs. Boats leave roughly every 15 to 30 minutes. When it comes to getting to the parks guests can be picked up by bus at any of the 4 bus stops, which leave all rooms conveniently located to a bus stop. Keep in mind that the bus does usually stop at Port Orleans French Quarter to pick up guests before getting to Port Orleans Riverside. The four bus stops are North Depot, East Depot, West Depot and South Depot. All four bus stops feature a screen that shows the expected arrival time for the next bus, guests can also check the My Disney Experience app to see estimated bus arrival times.
Fishing
Depart from Riverside Levee Marina on a guided catch and release fishing excursion. Guests can choose from either a two or four hour fishing excursion with the ability to add on up to an extra hour. For guests who are interested in staying on the shore but still enjoy fishing Old Fashioned cane pole fishing is also available at the Fishin’ Hole on Ol’ Man Island.
Fitness
The Sassagoula River offers guests a paved mile long path to walk or jog that is beautifully landscaped. Guests also can take advantage of the bicycle and surrey bike rentals that are available on a first come first serve basis from the Riverside Levee Marina.
